Party Time

It is that time of year when everything is winding down, clubs and associations  have had their final meetings for the year, big businesses are celebrating their turnover and profits and everyone is in the mood for kicking back, relaxing and having a party....whether it be for any one of the reasons above or just to have a get together of family or friends, parties in December are significantly better than any other time of the year....don't you think?

Last weekend we had a get together with some of the committee members of the Hammanskraal Community Policing Forum (CPF) and although not everyone arrived to join in the fun and braai a piece of meat on the coals, it was none the less a very pleasant time.  Looking in from the outside as other family members do, it is interesting to watch the rapport between this small group of people....they, who sit on the committee and attend meetings month after month, trying to bring a very large community together, working in harmony, side by side with the police.  A group of people of different races and multicultural back grounds, who have decided that they are all working towards the same end, and make it work they will.  My hubby is the chairperson of this group of concerned citizens and twice this year he handed in his resignation for personal reasons, both times being coerced into staying and seeing his vision through to the end.  I am very proud of what he has achieved so far and what he still hopes for the future of the CPF and so it is nice to see how respected he has become outside of our own family group.

Last evening we had a local CPF committee meeting to finalize plans for our own year end function on Saturday.  Before the event we will have our hands full, some more than others, putting it all together and I hope that we will have as good a time this year as we did last year.  The community has their own centre now, which is wonderful....no more cleaning up by one poor hostess....we will all take our  picnic baskets and food to share and enjoy ourselves with friends and neighbours....

The coming weekend is definitely a full one with another function on Sunday, this time the budgie club.....the first for this club which was started just a couple of months ago.  All the members are friends who have known each other for many years and as when they usually get together, I am sure that most of the conversation will be 'budgie talk' ....

After that, if there are any more parties, then Johan will probably be 'flying solo' as NiQi goes into hospital on Sunday evening....or maybe just maybe she should pack a party in her suitcase and have a ward party....
